Experience the Veillon

For this first nature experience, we take you to an exceptional site. Discover the Veillon. It is ranked the first remarkable site of Vendée.
It is one of the few untouched beaches remaining and it is simply beautiful. It is a must during your stay in our 4 star campsite in Les Sables d’Olonne.
To make the most of your day, arrive there before 10 am.

The Veillon beach, located in Talmont Saint Hilaire is a real little corner of paradise.

How to get there :

It is about a 15 minute drive from the campsite. Free parking is available on site. Think about arriving early, it will be easier to find a parking spot.
You can also ride the 8 kilometers by bike, it will take about 25 minutes to get there.

We’ll see about relaxing on the beach later. First, let’s get walking!

This is the best way to discover the surrounding fauna and flora.
Around the site of Le Veillon, a 6 kilometer hike, accessible to all levels, will allow you to discover the richness of this exceptional spot.
It takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete the loop.

Good to know: in high season, the beach gets crowded, so mornings are better for going on this hike.

The departure point is at the Veillon parking lot.
You will start the walk along the beach, before going into the forest. The panoramic view is breathtaking, nothing but nature for as far as the eye can see.
The shade of the pine and oak forest makes this stretch of the hike rather pleasant.
After crossing through the forest, you will arrive at the oyster huts. (it is possible to taste oysters and seafood).
Once you pass the oyster beds, continue your journey back towards the starting point.

6 kilometers by foot builds up an appetite…

For lunch you have two options:

The first option and the closest to nature.
A picnic on the beach or under the pine trees. Place your tablecloth on the fine sand and set up for lunch. You will be surrounded by pristine nature.

The second option, one that will make your mouth water, is to have lunch at the restaurant La Plage. It is the only restaurant at Le Veillon and the view of the ocean is stunning.
The decor is lovely and the home-made dishes are delicious.
Don’t forget to make a reservation, the restaurant is very popular in high season.

After a delicious meal, a nap is in order!

Direction: the beach. It is a kilometer in length, so you will have plenty of room to lay your towel down. A nap for some and swimming for others.
Constant work is done to preserve the beauty of this beach. Moreover, the beach has been awarded the Blue Flag label. This label rewards the quality of the bathing water.

At low tide, the Veillon reveals its greatest secrets… Head to the rocks along the beach. If you look hard enough, you can see dinosaur footprints. This is not a joke!
The site is protected, so look, do not touch.

Back at the campsite, to end this wonderful day, how about a good barbecue on the terrace of your rental?
The long evenings and mild summer weather are a godsend for this type of meal.
You can rent gas barbecues at the campsite (charcoal barbecues are forbidden on the parcels).
With a glass of wine and some peanuts, let the sausages, ribs, kebabs and some vegetables grill gently on the barbecue.

Take your time and enjoy, you are on vacation…
